April has been a big month for music, and as we approach the end of another school year, it can help to hear new songs to keep you motivated. A new artist or new songs from a familiar one could be just the right energizer for finals. Here are a few of the albums that dropped this month.
Taylor Swift
You can’t talk about Pop music right now without mentioning Taylor Swift, whose album The Tortured Poets Department is another big release. Swift released this sixteen-song album on April 19, followed very shortly by an anthology version including fifteen extra songs.
On Swift’s Instagram she stated that this album is meant to “reflect events, opinions, and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time — one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.”
After a week of sales, The Tortured Poets Department reached 2.6 million dollars in album sales and peaked at number one on the Billboard 200.
Future & Metro Boomin
An exciting album for rap enjoyers, We Still Don’t Trust You was released by Future and Metro Boomin on April 12. This album has a twenty-five-song track list and features many heavy-hitting names such as Lil Baby, J. Cole, and The Weeknd. When this duo combines, they always promise a boundary-pushing sound.
Lizzy McAlpine
Moving to the indie and folk side of pop — Lizzy Mcalpine might be your new favorite artist. She just released her album Older. After Writing hit songs like “Ceilings” and “To the Mountains,” McAlpine’s popularity is exploding. Older is McAlpine’s third major studio album. She wrote in The Washington Post that this album is “a project she hopes will be a more raw reflection.”
This is only a small glance at the music released this past month. Other major artists such as J. Cole, Dua Lipa, and Hozier also released music in April, providing plenty of new music for any type of listener.
