Students duke it out (deliciously) in campus Cupcake Wars event
The SAC event was the first in October, and inspired sugar-loaded creativity among all its participants.
For the first Student Activity Council (SAC) event of October, Bethel College saw the only war a Mennonite campus would ever agree to host. Of course, it involved food.
The Cupcake Wars, a cupcake decorating contest inspired by the Food Network show of the same name, was hosted by SAC members Megan Terrell and Jabril Powell on Monday. The war saw many Bethel students gathering in the Mantz Library lobby to decorate their own cupcake, in the hopes that they would be able to create the best decorated cupcake of the night.
“The idea was that it was national cake day today,” Powell said at the event. “But we wouldn’t be able to get everyone a cake, so we went with cupcakes instead.”
The competitors were given a cupcake and a variety of decorations, and were given a total of 45 minutes to decorate their cupcake. Themes ranged from Kansas wildflowers to pumpkins and jack o’ lanterns for the fall spirit, from Bethel themes to completely undecorated cupcakes in a bowl, and everything in between.
“This is just the first of [several more] activities this month,” Terrell said. “We have cash prizes for the top three cupcakes. It’s a fun competition.”
To keep up to date with more events like these, be sure to follow SAC on instagram, check your Bethel student email, or look at the list outside of the Caf for more chances to participate in fun activities and win some prizes.
