Softball opens up its conference run with two losses against Bethany
They start the season 9-9 in non-conference play, now 9-11 overall.
LINDSBORG — At the conclusion of non-conference play, the Bethel softball team was 9-9. The Threshers then headed into their conference opener doubleheader against Bethany, where they lost the first game, 10-0, and dropped the second contest, 5-2.
Game one: L, 10-0
During the first conference contest for the Threshers, they recorded five hits through five innings. Out of those hits, four out of five runners were stranded on the bases while the fifth was thrown out trying to steal second base.
Within the first two innings, Bethany had a 5-0 lead. With five more runs coming in the next three innings, the Swedes would be up 10-0 and the run rule was enforced, leaving the Threshers with the 10-0 loss in five innings.
Game two: L, 5-2
The second contest would start out slow with neither team scoring for two whole innings. Bethany would break the silence first, getting three runs in the third inning.
In the top half of the fourth inning, Reagan Robinson drove in Ella Caudill, who was pinch running for Ashleigh Bodine, which brought the score to 3-1. In the next two innings, the Swedes would get a run each inning, bringing their lead to 5-1.
In the seventh inning, Dakota Piovesan drove in Cynae Wiley to put runners on each corner. Piovesan then stole second base. Claire Broxterman was up to bat and struck out before Taylor Sanfillippo was able to get on base, but the Swedes held Bethel back, eventually earning a strikeout with loaded bases.
The Thresher will be back in action on Saturday as they make the trip to Ottawa to take on the Braves with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
