SGA Report | Senate meets to discuss three bills, and ISRs
The Senate discussed funding and the SGA Constitution.
The Student Government Association Senate met on Nov. 12 for a lengthy meeting, in which they discussed three bills, some financial business, and ISRs.
The meeting began with bill #92011, which called for the allocation of $230 from the Registered Student Organization fund to the Pride Alliance Council. The $230 was to be used to buy pizza during a free STI clinic, and buy energy drinks for PAC’s “fuel up finals” event during finals week.
The money was needed by PAC because their previously allocated funds had run out, leaving them with -$1.25 in their account.
After discussion in executive session, the Senate passed the bill 9-1, with the stipulation that PAC finds a treasurer to ensure better management of money in the future.
Next on the agenda were two ISRs, which the Senate discussed in executive session.
The next bill to be discussed was bill #92012, which would allocate $2370 from the Special Projects fund to upgrade appliances in the commuter kitchen found in the Will Academic Center.
$300 would be used to replace the three current microwaves, $70 would be used to buy an air fryer, and $2000 would be used to buy a new refrigerator.
The cost of the refrigerator would be split with the Bethel Barbecue Club, and after the purchase, the BBC would refund their half of the purchase to SGA.
The bill passed unanimously after minimal discussion.
At this point, Secretary of the Treasury Gavin Rogers took a moment to inform the Senate that the Special Projects fund contained $4300 less than they had previously been told, due to the incorrect coding of a carpet purchase to another account. This meant that as of the 12th, the fund contained $3967.22.
The last item discussed was bill #92013, which contained numerous amendments to the current SGA constitution. Many of the amendments, such as the change to make prospective bills due 24 hours before the next Senate meeting, were for the purpose of aligning the stated practices of SGA with what the actual practices look like. Others, such as the introduction of two new associate justices, were aimed at allowing SGA to better fulfill its duties.
The bill passed unanimously. The amendments will be sent to the student body, where they must pass with at least a ⅔ majority in order to take effect.
Finally, the meeting adjourned at 11:48.
