The Student Government Association (SGA) met briefly on Tuesday to discuss old and new business and pass an Individual Scholarship Request (ISR).
To start, the SGA broke into an executive session to discuss the ISR. This was done for the privacy of the student who requested funds from the SGA. The ISR passed. That was the only bill discussed and passed during the senate meeting.
Next, the SGA discussed budget allocation processes for clubs and how that process will be carried out this year. The SGA hopes to make it a more streamlined process so that clubs are more prepared for it.
“It’s more or less just to make things go through a little smoother,” said Matthew Fleck, Vice President of the SGA and junior from Cherokee. “We want clubs to be prepared going into the next year as well as for SGA to be able to ask questions so that we can utilize SGA funds to the best of our ability.”
In old business, the SGA discussed the new budget, committee assignments and progress reports, and the next meeting times for both the committees and the senate.
Following the senate’s decision last meeting to pass the Budget Deficits Act, a bill to reduce the SGA budget and funds delegated to each club based on usage last semester, the senate discussed updates. The executive branch of the SGA has been working to develop a new budget for the group to help determine how much needs to be cut, but also how much is available to them during this semester.
The committees briefly gave updates on progress throughout the last three weeks since the last meeting. Shower curtains and shower heads are still in the process of being replaced. Supplies are currently on backorder, but they should be arriving soon.
Committees will meet once more next week and the Senate will meet the following week on Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. in WAC 203.
