SGA Report | Group meets to pass ISR, discuss spring play reimbursement
Senators will meet again following Spring Break.
The Student Government Association (SGA) met on Tuesday for a senate meeting. This meeting covered an ISR, an SGA-related bill, and a discussion covering a few topics following the voting process.
With three senators proxying, all votes done during the meeting were unofficial until all votes were confirmed later in the day.
To kick off the meeting, the SGA started by breaking into executive session to discuss and vote on an ISR. This is historically done to protect the financial privacy of the student who submitted the request.
Next up is Bill 91-025 to Allocate Funds for an SGA tablecloth. This bill would draw money from the Special Projects fund and would give the SGA Exec permission to order one tablecloth for the SGA. The tablecloth would cost $85.98 and feature the SGA logo on black fabric.
This would give the SGA a more professional look when they appear in front of the student body and community. The bill passed 5-0 despite the small number of in-person senators.
The SGA reviewed important dates for the rest of the semester. March 23 is the Budget Allocation meeting. Senators in charge of the budget allocation process have been selected and are in communication with Student Life.
Elections for President and Vice President will be held on March 25 and senate elections will be held on April 15. More information will follow in a later meeting.
Moving on, the Bethel theater department has reached out to the SGA to determine if the SGA will be paying for tickets for the spring production, Rancho Mirage. This funding may not be possible in the future, but the SGA loosely settled on funding one ticket per student for this spring.
The group then checked in on committee progress. The next step for the Mantz Library study room and weight room update projects will be getting an itemized list for each project. The ice machine was mentioned with the possibility that it may become a part of the Warkentin Court kitchen project in conjunction with Larry Rice and Adam Akers.
The SGA also reviewed the Student Satisfaction Inventory conducted last spring. Students on campus have expressed a lack of belonging on campus and the group analyzed ways that they might be able to help.
The group asked questions about what happened with the Housing Resolution submitted last spring and the Anti-Discrimination Act submitted last semester to the institution’s student life office. The SGA will establish a chain of command for important documents such as these for future situations.
The next SGA meeting will be held March 27 in WAC 203 at 11 a.m. two weeks after Spring Break.
