SGA addresses the Board of Directors
SGA spoke to the Board on campus improvements and student experience initiatives
During the Oct. 3 and 4 meetings of the College’s board of directors, the Student Government Association (SGA), led by Matthew Fleck and Taryn Paulino, presented an extensive overview of their initiatives aimed at improving student life on campus.
Fleck and Paulino highlighted significant strides in the SGA’s visibility, including the launch of a new website, the introduction of an anonymous complaint form, and the establishment of office hours for direct student engagement. These efforts have brought a more approachable and active student government.
The duo also shared positive feedback regarding several key campus improvements. The Memorial Hall weight room has been upgraded, the Warkentin Court kitchen has reopened, and study rooms in the library now feature whiteboards for collaboration. Additionally, they addressed safety concerns mainly relating to poorly lit areas on campus, detailing ongoing efforts to improve lighting for student security.
A significant topic of discussion was the formation of an Employment Experiences committee, designed to gather student feedback on their work experiences. Fleck added that the Employment Experiences is “new and here to stay.” The board raised concerns about freshmen adjusting to the new employment processes. In response, Fleck and Paulino acknowledged that many students face challenges in finding time for their work hours. They emphasized the committee’s role in identifying these obstacles and facilitating a smoother transition for all students.
Overall, the presentation focused on SGA’s commitment to improving student experiences and ensuring a safer, more supportive campus environment.
