Schrag breaks own school record at Pitt State meet
The Threshers set many personal records along with breaking the 3,000-meter school record for the second weekend in a row.
PITTSBURG — The Bethel indoor track and field teams competed on Saturday at Pitt State where they set many personal records and had another breakthrough on a school record.
Similar to last week, Bethany Schrag broke the school record again, shaving nearly two and a half more seconds off of the 3,000-meter school record that she set last weekend as she turned in a time of 11:35.97.
“It was a tough race,” Schrag from Valley Center said. “But I'm glad I had the support of my teammates and coach.”
Some other notable results for the women’s team came from Myiah Logue who finished 3rd in the triple jump with a mark of 10.67 meters after finishing 13th in the long jump with a mark of 4.87 meters. Mia Roman finished 6th in the 600 meters with a time of 1:42.27. Taryn Paulino finished 4th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.36. Schrag finished 4th with her new school record time of 11:35.97 in the 3,000 meters.
On the men’s team, Tobin Wise competed in multiple events and set his own personal record in a race again after doing it last week as well. Wise finished 15th in the mile with a time of 4:32.44 and finished 9th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.89.
“This meet was a huge breakthrough for my career,” Wise said. “I ran the best two track races of my life in the mile and 800 and my performance was a big confidence booster for me. I’m practically in the same shape I was at the end of last outdoor track season and it’s only January. I’m excited to keep working and see what I can accomplish as the season continues.”
Although the team’s have had to step back from practices due to weather conditions, coaches are hopeful for the rest of the indoor season.
“I am excited about the strides our team is making with the limited training we've been able to do due to the harsh weather conditions,” head distance coach Julio Martinez said. “Everyone stepped up and delivered strong performances in a deep field of competition. Not only were we coaches impressed, but other coaches complimented our team performances at the meet. A list of lifetime best and a repeat school record made for a great meet.”
Both Thresher squads will be back in action on Saturday, when they will travel to Wichita to take part in Wichita State's Wilson Invitational.
