Rowe, Pringle Jr. resign from flag football, women's basketball posts
The moves were announced in a pair of press releases on Thursday.
On Thursday, Bethel College announced the resignation of Angela Rowe — who had been the head women’s flag football coach for a season — as well as Derrick Pringle Jr., the head women’s basketball coach for the past two seasons.
Rowe arrived in North Newton in the spring of 2022 and began the building process for the flag football program.
“Angela was given a difficult task of building a program from the ground up,” Interim Director of Athletics Collin Loutensock said in the press release. “I am thankful for all of the hard work Coach Rowe put into our women's flag football program, leaving us in a great spot moving forward.”
Rowe finished 1-9 in her lone season at the helm and picked up the program’s first win against Saint Mary.
“Bethel was the start of my college coaching career and I would like to extend my gratitude to Bethel College for affording me the opportunity to increase my skill set and gain knowledge of collegiate athletics,” Rowe said. “As I move on to other opportunities, Bethel will always be a part of my path, as etched from the beginning.”
Rowe will move on to a new career opportunity while the Bethel begins a nationwide search for their new flag football coach, per the release.
Head women’s basketball coach, Derrick Pringle Jr., has also resigned.
Before coming to Bethel in the spring of 2021, Pringle Jr. was the head women’s basketball coach at Simpson University in California, where he got his Master’s of Education in Leadership. He also served as the assistant athletic director at Simpson.
“I'm thankful for the impact Derrick had on our women's basketball program," Interim Director of Athletics Collin Loutensock said. “We brought Derrick on board in a time when this program needed a leader and someone to right their culture, he was successful in both.”
Pringle Jr. had four all-conference honorees on his Thresher teams and departs with a KCAC postseason tournament appearance under his belt. There were also seven women’s basketball records broken throughout his time with Bethel.
“As I reflect on the past two years, it has been an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to pour into students' lives, work with fantastic staff and faculty, and make life-long friends,” Pringle Jr. said in the press release.
“I want to thank Bethel College for the opportunity,” he added. “I am beyond grateful for my time here and I wish nothing but the best to the community here at Bethel."
Bethel will begin a nationwide search to fill the head women’s basketball coach position immediately, per the release.
