Registrar Marcia Miller to resign and retire following 10-year Bethel career
Miller attended and graduated from the school.
Last Friday, Robert Milliman — Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty — announced in an email to the Bethel College community that registrar Marcia Miller has announced her retirement and submitted her letter of resignation, effective Jan. 3, 2023.
Miller has a deep relationship with Bethel that spans multiple generations. She attended, graduated from, and met her husband at the school. Additionally, two of her children have graduated from Bethel.
“Marcia has shown a deep commitment to the College through her work and contributions of time, all dedicated to the betterment of the organization,” Milliman wrote in the email. “The College is very dear to her. She has been an extremely loyal employee.”
He continued, “As Registrar for the past ten and a half years, Marcia has provided exceptional leadership. She has assisted in the creation and maintaining of the academic records and enrollment of students, led in the interpretation and implementation of academic policies … [and] has worked diligently alongside faculty with the goal for students to successfully graduate.”
Miller spoke with The Collegian, recalling her most notable project — the Thresher Transition class — and noted where she’s seen the most change within the institution during her time in her role.
“I became concerned about transfer students and wanted to find a way to help them transition into the Bethel College community,” Miller said. “I started [the class] and taught it every semester for several years. Our statistics in retaining transfers improved radically and the class continues today.”
She continued, “The department of athletics has developed a great team of coaches who recruit not only excellent athletes but students that are academically successful. This mindset is different than when I started ten years ago.”
And given her history with Bethel, Miller expressed just how much her time with the school means to her. “The Bethel experience for me has meant community, friendship, and relationships for a lifetime,” she said. “I’ll miss the students.”
“Learning the stories of a diverse group of students has been an incredibly valuable experience,” Miller added. “I’ll [also] miss the people … staff and faculty members I work closely with … the dedication of our staff and faculty faithfully committing their skills to the betterment of Bethel College is truly inspiring.”
Miller will complete the fall semester in her current role.
