Service day is a staple day for Bethel College, as service is something Bethel works to integrate deeply into the school.
This year's service day hosted 46 different service opportunities and 431 Bethel students. Students pulled weeds, sorted bags of supplies, cleaned, helped in classrooms, painted, trimmed trees, and did many other tasks that needed to be accomplished around the communities of Newton and North Newton.
In just one day with all the students combined, students spent over 1,500 hours giving back to the community.
Freshman Kenzi Young, from Los Angeles, volunteered at the Newton Et Cetera Shop, “We helped sort through and organize clothes for those in need.” Young expressed, “It was such a good feeling to know we were helping out our community and helping keep people warm as fall and winter are coming around.”
Freshman Amos Harder, from Buhler, volunteered on the Sand Creek Trail where he spread mulch, “This impacted me because I didn’t just get to help my community, but I also get to walk this trail and know I helped to make it.”
As part of my employment experience job, I was one of the coordinators for service day. I got to drive around and see all the different impacts students were having in our community and it was very motivating.
