Micah Wenger tabbed as next Editor-in-Chief of The Collegian
Wenger will be joined by Jenna Mahoney, who steps into the Deputy Editor role for the next academic year.
On Thursday, The Collegian announced that current first-year Bethel College student Micah Wenger has been selected as the organization’s next Editor-in-Chief. Additionally, sports editor Jenna Mahoney will assume the Deputy Editor position alongside her current role.
Both of these changes are effective Fall 2024. Wenger is awarded the responsibility after spending the past semester as a features writer, authoring stories such as “Pokémon Go: Encouraging community and exercise at Bethel” and “The evolution of a Bethel staple: From Bubbert’s to the 1887 Cafe.”
The application, interview, and selection processes were conducted jointly by current editor-in-chief Brett Esch and faculty advisor Christine Crouse-Dick.
“I’m really interested in how The Collegian works,” Wenger said on Thursday’s special episode of the TBC Podcast. “I enjoy writing, but more than that, I’m interested in how the leadership happens and how people get things done. … And how I can improve things for our editors and writers who are the ones doing the work every day.”
Mahoney has spent her entire time in North Newton as a member of The Collegian, the first two years as a writer and the current year as an editor.
“I feel extremely proud of the work that has been done in what will be my two years as Editor-in-Chief,” Esch said. “And I feel even more grateful knowing Micah and Jenna will improve on the foundation that has been built by this incredible staff.”
The Collegian placed second for Best Overall Newspaper at last spring’s Golden Leaf Awards hosted by the Northern Plains Collegiate Media Association (NPCMA).
