Dynamic duo: Trevon and DJ's journey to football excellence at Bethel
Two individuals on the football team reflect on their time playing together and share their goals for the upcoming season.
In the world of college football, the journey from one level to another often presents challenges and opportunities for growth.
For Trevon Madison, a wide receiver, the transition from Ferris State University to Bethel College wasn't just about adapting to a new environment — it was about seizing the chance to shine brighter than ever before.
Trevon's first year in North Newton was marked by a period of adjustment. Stepping onto the field after a four-year period where he was away from the game, he faced the daunting task of reacquainting himself with the complexities of football.
"That first year was more of me getting my feet wet again," Trevon, a senior from Warren, Mich. reflects. "But during the spring is where I really gained my confidence back."
"We connected on what felt like play after play."

It was during this pivotal spring season that the sparks of chemistry between Trevon and DJ Ciers, the college’s quarterback, began to ignite. Spending countless hours fine-tuning their timing on routes and plays, the duo forged a connection that would soon become the cornerstone of Bethel College's offensive scheme. "We connected on what felt like play after play," Trevon recalled. "And that continued over to fall camp."
For DJ, honing this connection with Trevon meant recognizing his teammate's strengths and finding ways to maximize his impact on the field. "No crazy adjustments for Trevon," DJ, a junior from Houston, Texas explained. "We just knew he's a leader and a guy we depend on." This mutual trust and understanding laid the foundation for their success on game day.
But success doesn't come without its challenges, and both Trevon and DJ understand the importance of relentless preparation. "I love the fact that I'm looked to be counted on," Trevon remarked. "It makes me take my training and preparation to a whole new level."
As seasoned veterans of the game, both players embrace their roles as leaders on and off the field. "I see myself as one of the leaders on the team and on the offense," Trevon said. "I feel like I can be another coach on the field." Similarly, DJ views his experience as an opportunity to mentor younger players and instill in them the values of dedication and perseverance.
With the upcoming season looming on the horizon, Trevon and DJ have set their sights on lofty goals. "I have the bar set high," Trevon declared, outlining his aspirations for 15-20 touchdowns and 1500 yards. DJ echoed this sentiment, expressing his desire to achieve All-American status while leading his team to playoff glory.
“We know that to get to that point, we need to focus on getting better every day."

Yet amidst the pressure and expectations, both players remain grounded in their commitment to team success. "We know that to get to that point, we need to focus on getting better every day," Trevon emphasized. Whether it's a typical Tuesday filled with grueling workouts or a game day under the bright lights, their dedication never wavers.
As they prepare to embark on another season together, Trevon and DJ stand united in their resolve to leave an indelible mark on the gridiron. With their chemistry reaching new heights and their ambitions soaring skyward, the dynamic duo of Bethel College football is poised to make this season one for the ages.
