Bethel College has recently updated the look of its website. Executive Director of Institutional Communications and Marketing Tricia Clark, who was one of the people who helped with the update, said that there were many reasons they decided to update the website but if she had to pick one it would be because “the former website was not created for mobile; the speed needed to be faster, and the layout needed to be more modern and less chaotic.”
This can be seen as you scroll down the page with information and links flying in from the sides of the page, creating a modern feel for the viewer. The change went live on Jan. 10.
Clark worked alongside Associate Web Developer Grant Bellar to drive Bethel forward digitally. The update to the website was one of the first things that needed to be addressed and was widely considered much-needed. “The former website was nearing 10 years old,” Clark explained. The new website’s goal is to be a “conversion” engine – as opposed to simply a pretty website.
It’s generally more convenient due to the more modern navigation, although it might take an adjustment period for those used to the old website. Freshman Jacob Regier from Henderson, Neb. said, “The website is nice but sometimes it’s a little confusing when trying to find some things.” The website will continue to be updated based on new information.
Clark also wanted the photos on the website to represent the “feel” of life in North Newton. She said, “I wanted to have strong images that convey Bethel’s mission and vision.” This is exactly what was accomplished according to Josiah Buller, a freshman from Inman: “I really like the new look because it shows what Bethel College is all about.”
Clark noted that she and the team that developed this new website will be monitoring opportunities for updates around the clock. “We continuously listen to suggestions. … If anyone would like to contact us, please email webfeedback@bethelks.edu.”
