Cheer, dance teams place second, third at KCAC Championships
The cheer squad awaits a potential at-large bid to nationals, while the dance squad looks forward to next season.
WICHITA — The Bethel cheer and dance teams took on the KCAC Championships on Feb. 17 in Wichita. The cheer team finished second, while the dance team finished third.
In the cheer team’s preliminary round, it found itself in second place with a score of 81.2, its highest score of the season. In the final round, Bethel was able to up its score to 82, but was unable to get to the top and finished only behind Friends.
All-KCAC honors were released the same night. Michayla Contreras, Isaiah Gayden, and Kaylon Hamilton were named to the first team. Aaron Aery was named second-team all-KCAC. Madison Mitchell and Sierra Rudman were named to the honorable mentions list.
The Thresher cheer team now awaits a potential NAIA at-large bid for nationals.
The Bethel dance squad scored 61 to finish third in the KCAC.
“I wish the difficulty of our choreography would’ve upped it by a few points, but I was happy with how the team performed,” head dance coach Kiley McCord said. “They gave energy and facials. For the scores to have been higher we would’ve had to have a higher level turn sequence and turn.
“However, where the team is as a whole group with those skills, we couldn't make it more difficult because everyone has to be able to do the skill together.”
The dance team now looks forward to another go at it next season.
