Cheer, Dance place fourth in first competition
They'll look to improve in this weekend's Thresher Invitational.
SALINA — The Bethel cheer and dance teams both competed at the Kansas Wesleyan University Invite in Salina this past weekend. Although this is the first competition of the season, both teams are happy with their results and scores.
On the Cheer side, the team placed fourth.
“Before and during the competition, the team’s energy was amazing. We were all very excited to finally be competing,” Paige Rocha, first-year from Andover, said. “After the competition, … we were all very tired and ready to go to bed after being at the competition all day.”
Through the changing of energies and what was considered a lack of practice, the team felt less prepared than they would’ve liked to be. “The competition went better than I expected it to go,” junior Alex Hoofer from Wichita said. “We had only performed the entire routine once before — and that was the second time.”
On the Dance side of things, the team placed fourth as well, with some encouraging things to work on.
“I felt pretty good about our routine,” senior Edel Miller from Goessel said. “We can definitely do better, but it wasn't bad for the first competition of the season. We're always working to make things cleaner and add difficulty to bring our score up. We were pretty excited to compete.
“I felt like we gave it our all, even if the scores weren't what we would have wanted. We're definitely frustrated with some of the judging, but there's not a lot we can do about it.”
Although both team endured their fair share of ups and downs, they’re ready to elevate their success through the rest of the season. They’ll be back in action for the Thresher Invitational on Friday and Saturday on Bethel’s campus.
