Campus Award Shows: Bubberts and Threshpys
Looking ahead to the upcoming Bethel College award shows
The end of the school year is always a busy time for students. Luckily for students at Bethel, events such as the Threshpys and Bubberts give them something to look forward to. These two award shows, for both film and sports, are great ways for students to celebrate achievements and enjoy fun environments at the end of the school year.

Here’s a short rundown of what students can expect from both events:
For all of the student athletes, the Threshpys is an award show similar to ESPN’s “The ESPYS.” Athletes and coaches receive free admission to this event; other students and members of the community are welcome to attend, but will have to pay for their entry.
The Threshpys is an award show dedicated to all the sports teams at Bethel, celebrating team and player achievements from the year. The Threshpys highlight different aspects of gameplay, with categories such as best offensive and defensive play of the year, best team win, Freshman of the year, and many others.
Several different scholarships are also offered, and academic achievements are also celebrated. It’s an entertaining event where students get to dress up, take photos, hang out with their team, and watch highlights from the past year of athletics.
The second end-of-year awards show is Bubberts. Bubberts is a film contest put on by the Student Activities Council, and the title comes from the campus prankster Herman Bubbert.
All films are student-submitted and voted on by a panel of judges for a cash prize. Videos are up to 10 minutes long and have ranged in genres from comedy to horror. Even if students don’t submit a video, they are welcome to come and enjoy the submissions from their classmates.
Any students wanting to participate in Bubberts are welcome to. Submissions are due April 30th and should be sent to Sac@bethelks.edu. The first place winner will receive $350, second place $200, third place $100, and people’s choice $50.
Bubberts will be held on May 9th, and Thresphys on May 10th. Both events will take place in Memorial Hall.
