Bethel volleyball goes 1-2 in first tournament of season
Boone and Offerele led the way throughout the weekend.
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — Last weekend the Thresher volleyball team started off its season at the Golden Eagle Invitational hosted by John Brown.
Bethel lost in five sets to Mid-America Christian, and in three sets to the hosts. In their last match of the tournament, they were able to bounce back and take a victory in three sets over Texas A&M-Texarkana to cap off the long weekend.
“I was disappointed in the losses because I think they were games we should have won, but overall I was pretty happy where we ended up, getting a win at the end against a solid team,” third-year head coach Adriana Leake said. “The losses are never okay with me but it was still a good learning experience.”
Junior Jordan Boone was the Threshers leader in blocks as well as co-leader in kills when she combined for 19 blocks and 26 kills on the weekend.
“Our defense came together and we were all able to learn from our mistakes of the past two games [in the third game],” Boone said. “It’s a good starting point to our growth as a team and to see what we need to work on [in the future].”
Her performance over the weekend would give her the title of KCAC Defender of the Week for her statline.
Not only do the Threshers have a number of key returning players, there are also many newcomers to the team that got the chance to make the rotation during their first road trip.
One of these key newcomers was freshman Cam Offerle who co-lead the team in kills with 26 throughout the weekend.
“It’s nerve wracking stepping onto this team because there are high expectations and I want to do my job well,” Offerle said. “I feel pretty confident though, because Coach [Leake] has instilled confidence in us and hypes us up, she does her job well.”
The Bethel volleyball squad will be back in action on Aug. 25 as they travel to Hastings, Neb. for the Hastings Classic where they will take on Culver Stockton at 2 p.m. and Dickinson State at 4 p.m.
