Bethel track & field shines at Southwestern Jinx Invite
Threshers open outdoor season with promising results.
WINFIELD — The Bethel track & field team competed this past Saturday at the Southwestern Jinx Invite and the results were small but successful.
The results were mostly successful and the weather was the best it's been all year. It was 60 degrees and sunny with no wind, which made the competition fly by. The order of events was at a fast pace as the number of teams was low — which kept the athletes moving and locked in.
Daniel Kaufman performed well in his first outdoor meet, throwing javelin where he placed second behind a Bethany thrower, clocking in at 50.36 meters.
“I felt really good [with] how I threw since this was the first time throwing in four years,” Kaufman, a junior from Moundridge, said. “It was a career-best throw by 17 feet and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year and season, especially when it comes to throwing and running.”
Other notable finishes included multi-time all-American Trey Palmer placing second in the 100-meter race with a time of 11:08 and first in the long jump. Luke Schmidt placed second in the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:18 and fourth in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:01.
Tobin Wise placed third in the 1500 with a time of 4:19 and fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:03. Sophomore Myiah Logue placed first in the long jump. Aubry Grame placed second in hurdles. The women's 4x400-meter relay squad placed second.
In other throwing events, Julius McVay finished first in the shot put with a 12.95-meter mark, while Hayden Wallace placed third at 11.99 meters. McVay also placed second in the discus with a 37.41-meter result.
The Threshers will be back in action at Friends for the Spring Invitational in Wichita next Friday and Saturday. They look forward to continuing their success both now and throughout the rest of the season.
