Bethel Football Loses to McPherson at Home
The Threshers hosted their first home football game of the season but came up short against the Bulldogs.
The Bethel football team went head-to-head against McPherson College in a game hosted at Bethel. As the game started, Bethel couldn’t seem to find the rhythm that worked for them, and at the end of the first quarter, Bethel was down 14 points. The Threshers wanted to make a change but came out empty-handed, ending the first half with a 27-0 deficit.
The rest of the game wasn’t much different, as Bethel just couldn’t find its footing against a ready McPherson team. At the start of the fourth quarter, Josiah Buller and Byron Reese connected, earning seven points for the Threshers. Although the game ended with McPherson winning 33-7, head coach Josh Lawson is already planning ways to use the outcome as a means to improve the Bethel team.
“I’m not happy with 33-7 and am never going to be happy losing, but my takeaway from the game is this. Our kids played a lot harder this week and played with a lot more confidence as well.” Lawson said.
Coach Lawson has a clear understanding of the improvement and the effort the Bethel team is putting forward. He knows that this team wants to win, and they are putting in effort week after week and day after day to improve, not to be perfect—but to improve.
“When you’re a young and inexperienced football team, you just have to get better every single day.” Lawson added, “Our biggest opponent is ourselves, and that’s what we have to focus on every day, just being the best version of us we can be.”
The Threshers are starting to see a couple of strong players, like Noah Miller, who had 32 rushing yards, and Byron Reese, who added 30 rushing yards and 248 passing yards.
“I would say that we ran the ball at times really well today. We have to do a better job of holding on to the ball.” Lawson said.
Bethel will travel to Wichita today, Sept. 15, and will take the field at 6 p.m. to battle against the No. 11 Friends University Falcons.
