Bethel Football Enters New Era Under Coach Lawson
From quarterback battles to team goals, Bethel football embraces change.
As the 2025 Bethel football season approaches, the program enters a period of major transition with a new roster, a new head coach, and the challenges of a new year. These changes have raised questions about how the team is adapting. In an interview with head coach Josh Lawson, he addressed the transition directly:
“The transition has been good. We have changed the way we do a lot of things around here. A big thing we try to do is live and die off of organization and efficiency,” Lawson said.
His emphasis on structure and consistency reflects a strong mindset for guiding the team through change and ensuring no player is left behind, which is a positive sign for the season ahead.
Another key question concerns the team’s goals for the season. Many have wondered what Bethel football hopes to accomplish under new leadership. Coach Lawson explained,
“Our goal is to always be getting better. We talk about the opponent being perfect.”
In a competitive sport, it is easy to become overly focused on the opponent in front of you rather than the bigger picture. Lawson emphasized that the team’s focus must remain on steady improvement, working together, and taking the season one play at a time.
The quarterback position has also seen significant changes from last season to the start of this one.
“Right now, Byron Reese will start. CJ Crauthers is very capable and will be right there waiting in the wings to get his opportunity,” Coach Lawson stated.
Lawson emphasized that the role is not set in stone and could shift during the season. With both players competing, the Threshers have multiple options at quarterback, each eager to showcase his skills.
With a home game on Sept. 6, Bethel fans are eager to see the team play in front of their home crowd for the first time this season. As the year unfolds, the Threshers’ goals and mindset will be central to how the team progresses on the field.
