Bethel College names Becky Bartell director of nursing, announces other changes to department leadership
On Friday, Bethel College announced in an email to its faculty, students, and community that Rebecca Bartell has been named the new director of the school’s nursing department.
Bartell, a Bethel alumnus, served in the same role at Hesston College from 2017 until she returned to Bethel in 2021 as an assistant professor of nursing. She obtained her bachelor’s of science in nursing from Bethel before earning her master’s of science in nursing at Fort Hays State University.
Sarah Masem — who served as the nursing department’s interim director this past academic year — has been named Assistant Director.
“This arrangement will give both of these stellar instructors space in their schedules to teach, as well as perform the administrative responsibilities required by accreditors and the state of Kansas,” Bethel Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty Robert Milliman wrote in the email. “Becky and Sarah have proven track records in the areas of nursing instruction and administration. These new roles, then, will bolster an already excellent program.”
Additionally, joining Bartell and Masem as part of the nursing department’s faculty is Ruthann Farley.
“Ruthann has an MSN from Fort Hays State,” Milliman wrote. “She comes to Bethel following significant careers as a medical-surgical RN at Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital in Wichita and as a Professor of Nursing at Butler Community College in El Dorado. At Butler, Ruthann helped create, develop, and implement online instruction and virtual clinical experiences, as well as develop and implement a concept-based curriculum.”
Bartell, Masem, and Farley will assume their new roles effective immediately, per the announcement.
